It Can't Be Done Any Slower Video (René Lavand)
René Lavand was one of the true artists in the world of Close-Up Magic. His presentations and performances have a poetic and artistic quality to them that never fail to earn standing ovations.
One of his two signature routines was his rendition of the oil and water plot titled “It Can’t Be Done Any Slower.” He often used this routine as an opener, closer or even as a stand-alone act. It is also considered the highlight of World’s Greatest Magic II television special where he performed it.
The basic routine uses six cards. Three red number cards and three black picture cards. The cards are continuously mixed in a red black order and immediately separate into reds and blacks. This is repeated several times in slower, more deliberate and impossible seeming conditions. Also taught is Rene’s One-Hand Double Lift, One-Hand Second Deal, and his One-Hand Third Deal.

I recommend this trick very highly.
This is really an outstanding trick. It is not easy to learn and it may be that other, easier, oil-and-water tricks have the same effect on an audience. Nevertheless, as is the case with much of the work of Rene Lavand and such other magicians as Rafael Benatar, there's an elegance to this trick that, to my mind, makes it worth learning. In addition, there are plenty of tricks out there that can learned in a few minutes or an hour but this is something, like learning a one-handed faro, that will provide the satisfaction of mastering something difficult. I recommend this trick very highly.
