In
2005 Harry Anderson opened his 90-minute, one-man show "Wise Guy" at
Oswald’s in the French Quarter in New Orleans. The show ran until
the city was devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
This private book documents the original
show and preserves a moment in time where Harry was performing on a regular
basis and experimenting with some unique ideas and routines. The book is a
script of the show with all of Harry's patter and also includes a narration
of the show by Jon Racherbaumer.
Here is how Racherbaumer describes the book
in his foreword: "Short of actually experiencing this unique show, reading
this discursive treatment, along with the companionate script, will give one
a sense of what Harry's show was about. In this regard both documents are
also a blueprint of how a one-man show can and should be developed for
today’s audiences."
The run-down of the show is: The Wise Guy
Monte/The Welcome,. Card Possibilities, Hypnosis Lactosis, The Elephant
Comic, The Geek, A Middle-Aged, Straitjacket Escape, The Brain Shows Off,
Nothing Beats Skippy, and Chapeaugraphy.
Things you should know: The book is 8.5x11"
comb-bound, it is signed and numbered by Harry Anderson, it is a limited
edition of 500 numbered copies, 79-pages with photos. And since Harry is
left handed the book is designed for left handed people. Written by Harry
Anderson with additional commentary by Jon Racherbaumer. No magic is taught.

As
I was speaking to Harry the other day he mentioned that he had less
than 100 copies of the original Practical Magic's left. What are the
originals? I asked.
Well it turns out that before the bound
editions were envisioned he made a set for himself to use. He printed the
paper himself, he cut the paper himself and he plastic comb-bound each copy
himself. He then made some for friends and eventually made a bunch of them
to sell at a lecture. Although they are signed and numbered as a limited
edition of 500 copies he never printed that many. Actually there were much
less than 200 ever made.
So here is the interesting part of this
edition. The books are tiny. They measure 5"x4" and can fit in your pocket.
Because they are comb-bound they lay flat. So what Harry used to do with it
is use it at the bar when he made a standard Magic Square or performed his
"Drunkard Magic Square" routine. Because the booklet lays flat and remains open on
the page that the spectator selected, the magic square becomes self-working.
The first 16 fake page numbers on top of the two-page spread will give you
the Magic Square. All you have to do is copy them unto the 4x4 grid you just
drew on a bar napkin and you are done.
In many ways this is an innocent looking
version that is ideal for close-up or for casual situations. This version
will never be reprinted and will become collectible.
Note that the Magic Square instructions in
this edition are very basic and do not include the explanation to Anderson's
brilliant stand-up version that is explained in the perfect-bound edition.
Get them while they last -- at the same price he originally sold them for.
And remember -- they are hand made by Harry Anderson.

Harry
Anderson wrote a monthly column for the Society Of American
Magicians' M-U-M Magazine and Genii Magazine from 2005-2011. Those
columns which featured, magic, scams, word games, math puzzles,
esoteric stories, cons, tricks, historical anecdotes, proposition
bets, opinions, observations, jokes, and much more are reproduced in
this book.
As you read through the columns you will
also learn about Anderson's life during that time. Anderson also writes a
personal obituary about Leslie Smith (1915-2008) and how he impacted his
life and magic. You also get a story titled "Harry & Ted's Excellent
Adventure" where Anderson discusses Ted Annemann's impact. The first half of
the book concludes with a short essay about magic and Anderson's move to
North Carolina.
The second half of the book is a
reproduction of the screenplay Anderson wrote titled "Geek Love" which is
based on Katherine Dunn's bizarre novel about a family of carnival of
freaks. The script was optioned by Steven Spielberg, David Lynch, and Tim
Burton but was never made into a movie. Maybe it was too weird -- even for
them.
Published by Spade & Archer (Harry Anderson's
Company) in 2011. A 7"x4.25", paperback with full-color cover. 252-pages
with photos and illustrations. All copies are hand-signed by Harry Anderson.

The
Magic Square has always been an incredible presentation which proves
to the audience your superior intellect and math skills. It has been
performed the same way for its entire existence -- until Harry
Anderson completely revamped it so it no longer looks like a puzzle
or simply a show of genius. This new method reveals the totals as a
large sheet of paper is unfolded and torn into pieces, you no longer
need blackboards to write on so it becomes a stage piece that fits
in your pocket.
Here is what some pros have already said
about it:
A
criminally good idea. Too smart. …Michael Weber
I
was completely taken in. Really wonderful. …Eugene Burger
Entertaining
all the way through. …Mac King
Delightfully
dishonest. The only difficulty is keeping the wide grin off your face as you
do it. … Max Maven
So, Harry's new magic square alone is worth
the price of this book. But you get more. The instruction book which is
titled "Practical Magic" is actually a force book that forces the trick
titled Magic Square. It is supposed to be a secret magic book which lists
the greatest magic tricks in existence and a spectator is allowed to use it
to randomly decide what the performer should do next and simultaneously and
sneakily tell you what the totals of the magic square will be. The book also
cues you on how to complete the square.
Published by Spade & Archer (Harry
Anderson's Company) in 2011. A 7"x4.25", Green softcover with 150+ pages.
This is a limited edition of 500 numbered and signed copies by Harry
Anderson.

The
21 Card Trick is one of the single best known card tricks by
non-magicians. Often when a magician is approached by a lay person
who wants to show him a card trick -- it is the classic 21 Card
Trick, where a thought-of-card is discovered by a series of deals
where the magician or spectator deal three packets of seven cards
and eventually reveal the thought-of selection.
But, and this is a big BUT. Within the
underground of card magic there have been dozens of variations created where
the procedure looks the same to a lay person but the results are impossible.
You can literally blow the mind of a spectator by doing the trick he just
showed you back to him and fooling him completely. But that is not all. The
devious mathematical method has many other applications and they too are
discussed, taught and presented here.
As the subtitle, "The 21 Card Trick,
Reconstructed, Retro-fitted, Rigged," suggests, this is a collection of most
of the best methods and approaches to this plot and method. Contributors
include: Jack Parker, Edward Marlo, Steve Draun, Bruce Cervon, Jason Alford,
Simon Aronson, Peter Duffie, Max Maven, Mike Powers, Jim Swain, Steve
Bryant, Chris Kenner, Paul Gordon, Steve Beam, Bill Miesel, Chuck Smith,
Doug Conn, Roger Crostwaithe, Justin Higham and many others.

WHERE'S TOM? PUZZLE (AUTOGRAPHED)
===SOLD-OUT===
Harry
Anderson has always had a passion for creating impossibilities that
can be carried in his wallet. This puzzle was made by hand by Mr.
Anderson using real United States two-dollar bills.
The basic routine as explained in the
instructions: Remove the pieces to reveal the four backsides and "Where’s
Tom?" Allow the spectator to assemble the back, pointing out that Thomas
Jefferson is nowhere to be seen. Remind them that on a $2 bill Jefferson is
on the front.
Flip over the four bill pieces. Have the
front assembled. There will be a hole in the center where Jefferson should
be. Flip the "Where’s Tom" piece to reveal him.
Comes complete with signed business-card sized
instructions that explain the routine and act as a certificate of
authenticity, stating that: "This puzzle was made by hand by Harry Anderson
for Spade And Archer." A very limited edition. |

HARRY
ANDERSON THE SHADOW CARD
A deck of cards is wrapped with a rubber band (to eliminate any possible
sleight-of-hand). Three spectators peek at the top card and remember its identity. The
band is removed and a fourth spectator is handed the top card. The three spectators name
their cards. Each names a different card! The fourth spectator shows that the card he is
holding is a joker and not the cards named!
You explain that just like Lamont Cranston of "Shadow" fame, you have
learned "the mysterious power to cloud men's minds." Although the spectators
actually saw the joker, you forced another image into their mind.
By way of demonstration the deck is split in half, one packet goes to a fellow,
the other to a lady. The fellow glimpses a card in his half and removes it. He is asked to
concentrate intently on his chosen card. The lady also glimpses a card in her half, but
when she goes to remove it it's not there. It never was! The card that the lady thought
she saw is none other than the card being held by the fellow! Did she see another card
altogether? Did the fellow's intense thought cloud her mind? Only the Shadow knows!
Heh, heh, heh, heh, heh,...
Comes with two gaffed blue-back Bicycle cards and illustrated instructions. Use
your own deck.

HARRY ANDERSON THE LAST MONTE
This
is an outstanding routine which simulates the classic Three Card Monte
routine played on the streets. Even though the routine looks and feels like
the real thing the special cards supplied are used to create impossible
looking sequences. But the impossible and memorable ending is what kills.
While educating the spectators about how
not to get ripped-off with the con game you demonstrate a basic routine
where the money card is never found. You then give them the ultimate chance
to win by tearing the corner off the elusive money card. Believe it or not
when the card with the missing corner is turned over it is not the winning
Ace. Everything can be handed out for immediate examination and can be given
out as a souvenir.
Comes complete with
illustrated instructions and all necessary cards, including a dozen special
Monte cards. The cards supplied are Poker-size, blue-back Gemaco Casino Pro cards as used in
many casinos.

HARRY ANDERSON GANG OF FOUR
Harry Anderson's outstanding routine with built-in comedy, surprises and
souvenirs!
Four spectators each select
a card remember it. You remove one card from the deck and place it face down on
the table. You ask, "Would it be pretty good if all four of your cards are the same and all
match the card on the table?" When the cards are named, you are wrong and
disgustingly rip your card into quarters. But wait, each of the pieces matches a selected card and for a
kicker ending the four pieces do not fit back together as one.

Poker-size, Bicycle) and an illustrated instruction booklet. Use your own deck.
